FAQs
WHAT IS AQUIPTA?
AQUIPTA is a prescription medicine used to prevent migraine in patients who have at least 4 migraine days per month.
HOW DOES AQUIPTA WORK?
AQUIPTA blocks a key protein in the body called calcitonin gene-related peptide, or CGRP. This protein is believed to be one of the causes of migraine attacks. AQUIPTA blocks CGRP to help prevent migraine attacks.
WHAT IF I’VE TAKEN MORE AQUIPTA THAN PRESCRIBED?
If you think that you have used too much AQUIPTA, you may need urgent medical attention. You should immediately phone the National Poisons Centre (by calling 0800 POISON or 0800 764 766) or contact your doctor, or go to the Emergency Department at your nearest hospital. You should do this even if there are no signs of discomfort or poisoning.
WHAT IF I FORGET TO TAKE AQUIPTA?
A missed dose should be taken straight away. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the dose you missed and take your next dose when you are meant to. Do not take a double dose to make up for the dose you missed.
WHAT IF I STOP TAKING AQUIPTA?
Do not stop using AQUIPTA without talking to your doctor first. Your migraine symptoms may return if you stop the treatment.
CAN I TAKE AQUIPTA WITH OTHER MIGRAINE MEDICATIONS?
Your healthcare provider can advise on the appropriate treatment plan for you.
WHAT ARE THE COMMON SIDE EFFECTS OF AQUIPTA?
Common side effects include decreased appetite, nausea, constipation, drowsiness (sleepiness) and tiredness. Tell your healthcare professional if you notice any of these side effects. These are not all the possible side effects of AQUIPTA. For the full list of side effects and restrictions with AQUIPTA, see the AQUIPTA Consumer Medicine Information.
If you have any further questions on the use of this medicine, ask your healthcare professional.
HOW TO ACCESS AQUIPTA?
Talking with your healthcare professional can help you understand if AQUIPTA is right for you. To access AQUIPTA, your General Practitioner or Specialist will need to prescribe the treatment for you. Once you have a prescription, you will be able to purchase AQUIPTA in New Zealand.
