SIMPLICITY AND TOLERABILITY
Few side effects#
#AQUIPTA is generally well-tolerated with few side effects reported with 60 mg once daily over 12 weeks.3,4 The most commonly reported adverse drug reactions were nausea, constipation, and fatigue/sleepiness. The majority of the cases were mild, and none were serious.1 Hypersentisitivty reactions, including difficulty breathing, swelling of face, itching red rash or hives have been reported with the use of AQUIPTA. Hypersensitivity reactions can occur days after administration.1
HOW DOES AQUIPTA WORK WITHIN YOUR BODY?5-8
Your body has a protein called calcitonin gene-related peptide, or CGRP. CGRP is believed to play a major role in migraine attacks causing pain and inflammation.
AQUIPTA (atogepant) is designed to block CGRP.
AQUIPTA was specifically designed to prevent migraine attacks by directly targeting the CGRP receptor and blocking CGRP from binding to stop migraine-related pain and inflammation.
AQUIPTA (atogepant) is a prescription medicine used to prevent migraine in patients who have at least 4 migraine days per month.5
SIDE EFFECTS1
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
The most common side effects with AQUIPTA are shown here:
Feeling sick in your stomach (nausea), constipation, decreased appetite, tiredness (fatigue), drowsiness/sleepiness. Speak to your doctor if you have any of these side effects and they worry you.
AQUIPTA may cause severe allergic reaction. If you experience any of the following, call 111 or go straight to the Emergency Department.
Other side effects not listed here may occur in some people.

SIMPLE ONCE-DAILY DOSE
Take one 60mg tablet, once daily.
NOTE: Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children. Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton and blister after EXP. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month. Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to throw away medicines you no longer use. These measures will help to protect the environment
IF YOU TAKE MORE AQUIPTA THAN YOU SHOULD
If you think that you have used too much AQUIPTA, you may need urgent medical attention.
You should immediately:
- phone the National Poisons Centre (by calling 0800 POISON or 0800 764 766) or
- contact your doctor, or
- go to the Emergency Department at your nearest hospital.
You should do this even if there are no signs of discomfort or poisoning.
IF YOU FORGET TO TAKE AQUIPTA
A missed dose should be taken straight away. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the dose you missed and take your next dose when you are meant to. Do not take a double dose to make up for the dose you missed.
IF YOU STOP TAKING AQUIPTA
Do not stop using AQUIPTA or change the dose without talking to your doctor first. Your migraine symptoms may return if you stop the treatment.
TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR, NURSE OR PHARMACIST IF YOU NOTICE ANY OF THE LESS SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS AND THEY WORRY YOU:
- feeling sick (nausea)
- constipation
- tiredness (fatigue) or sleepiness (somnolence)
- decreased appetite
CALL 111 OR GO STRAIGHT TO THE EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT AT YOUR NEAREST HOSPITAL IF YOU NOTICE ANY OF THE FOLLOWING SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS.
Signs of an allergic reaction:
- difficulty breathing or swallowing
- swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat
- itching of skin, with a red rash or raised bumps
If you have any further questions on the use of this medicine, ask your doctor, pharmacist or nurse.
DO NOT USE AQUIPTA:
- if you are allergic to atogepant or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed below).
- The other ingredients are: Polyvinylpyrrolidone/Vinyl acetate copolymer, vitamin E polyethylene glycol succinate, mannitol, microcrystalline cellulose, sodium chloride, croscarmellose sodium, colloidal silicon dioxide and sodium stearyl fumarate.
- after the expiry date printed on the pack or if the blister pack is damaged or shows signs of tampering. If it is expired or is damaged, return it to your pharmacist for disposal.
CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR IF YOU:
- have allergies to any other medicines, foods, preservatives or dyes.
- have any liver or kidney problems
- take any medicines for any other condition
CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS
Do not give this medicine to children or adolescents (under 18 years old) because the use of AQUIPTA has not been studied in this age group.
OTHER MEDICINES AND AQUIPTA
AQUIPTA may affect the way other medicines work, and other medicines may affect how AQUIPTA works or increase the risk of experiencing side effects. Tell your healthcare professional about all the medicines you take including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins and supplements.
The following is a list of examples of medicines that may interact with AQUIPTA:
- medicines used to treat infections (e.g., ketoconazole, itraconazole, clarithromycin, rifampicin)
- medicines that affect your immune system (e.g., cyclosporine)
If any of the above apply to you or you are not sure, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking AQUIPTA.
PREGNANCY, BREASTFEEDING AND FERTILITY
- AQUIPTA is not recommended during pregnancy.
- It is not known if AQUIPTA will harm an unborn baby.
- It is not known if AQUIPTA passes into breast milk.
Check with your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or intend to.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
It is unlikely that AQUIPTA will have an effect on your ability to drive and use machines.
AQUIPTA CONTAINS SODIUM
This medicine contains 31.5 mg sodium (main component of cooking/table salt) in each 60 mg tablet. This is equivalent to 1.6% of the recommended maximum daily dietary intake of sodium for an adult.1
